Three pillars of our work
Brandmaier builds on principles that have been tried and tested. Every service is based on experience, partnership and the will to do it right.
energy efficiency
Our DFI displays use market-leading LED and LCD technologies, which impress with their extremely low power consumption. Thanks to efficient solar cells, our systems can also be operated at locations without electricity, which both reduces operating costs and protects the environment.
Robust and durable construction
Our passenger information systems are housed in ultra-modern aluminum and stainless steel housings, which are extremely resistant to environmental influences. This durable construction guarantees trouble-free operation even under extreme weather conditions, which significantly extends the life of the displays.
Flexibility and adaptability
Thanks to our modular design, our DFI displays are maximally flexible in size and can be easily adapted to different locations and requirements. Whether as a full-surface LED display for long reading distances or as a compact LCD display — our systems can be seamlessly integrated into any environment and therefore offer a tailor-made solution for every application

Public transport passenger information
Passengers expect accurate, up-to-date and reliable information during their journey. The right passenger information is crucial to ensure passenger satisfaction and to make public transport efficient. Our passenger information systems (FIS) offer comprehensive solutions that provide real-time data and thus improve passenger communication.
challenges
The challenges in the area of passenger information are manifold. Passengers can expect up-to-date information on departure times, delays and disruptions. At the same time, the systems must be robust, energy-efficient and easy to operate. In addition, different environments — from urban stops to rural areas — place different demands on technology.

LED displays from Brandmaier
Our passenger information systems offer tailor-made solutions for each of these challenges.
Here are the three main solutions we offer:
- full matrix LED displays - Maximum flexibility and visibility
- Low power LCD displays - Energy efficient and environmentally friendly
- DFI background system - Efficient data integration and monitoring

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Answers to the most common questions about Brandmaier and our work
What is a DFI?
DFI stands for Dynamic Passenger Information Indicator. This is a digital display system that provides passengers with real-time information at stops, train stations or directly in vehicles. Current departure and arrival times, delays, track changes and important operating messages are displayed, among other things. Modern DFI systems — such as those from Brandmaier — use LED or LCD technology and are designed in such a way that they remain easy to read even in direct sunlight or poor weather conditions.
What is a DFI system?
A DFI system comprises much more than just the display itself. It consists of display hardware (LED or LCD displays), a background system for central control and monitoring, and software that collects, processes and distributes real-time data from various data sources to the displays. At Brandmaier, the DFI system also includes a user-friendly web interface that allows operators to enter special texts, group displays and manage voice announcements. Since Brandmaier develops both hardware and software itself, all components can be optimally coordinated and flexibly adapted to individual requirements.
What are the benefits of dynamic passenger information?
Dynamic passenger information improves the public transport experience on several levels. Passengers receive real-time data on departure times, delays and connection options — this makes travel planning easier and significantly reduces the perceived waiting time. At the same time, the transparent transfer of information increases satisfaction and trust in public transport. For transport companies, this means: more passengers and fewer complaints. Thanks to acoustic output and easy-to-read displays, people with visual or hearing disabilities also benefit — an important contribution to accessibility, as required by modern public transport concepts.
What does FIS mean for railways?
FIS is the abbreviation for passenger information system and is used primarily in the rail sector. Functionally, an FIS covers the same area as a DFI system: It provides travelers with real-time information on train connections, arrivals, departures, delays and track changes. The term FIS is more common in the context of larger stations and railway companies, while DFI is more commonly used in urban public transport (bus, tram, subway). In terms of content, both systems have the same goal: to provide passengers with reliable and real-time information.
Why is passenger information important?
Passenger information is a central component of attractive public transport. If you know in real time when the next bus or train is coming, you can plan your trip more efficiently — this saves time and reduces stress. Current information about disruptions or detours also increases travellers' safety. Studies show that well-informed passengers are happier and use public transport more frequently. Reliable passenger information systems are therefore also an economically relevant factor for transport companies and municipalities — they strengthen the acceptance of public transport and contribute to the mobility revolution in the long term.
